Former England captain Lewis Moody has been encouraged to confront motor neurone disease with "complete determination" by former team-mate and co-World Cup champion Will Greenwood.

Moody, 47, discovered he was diagnosed with the progressive neurological disorder a fortnight back and has revealed to a national television show that he is struggling to confront the consequences of his diagnosis.

Sports icon Rob Burrow and Scotland and British and Irish Lions great Doddie Weir have both passed away due to the disease within the past three years.

Andrea Pinchen, the team's official at Leicester where Moody made 223 appearances, earning numerous national trophies and continental honors over 14 years, also praised Moody as a person, as well as a player.

"The figures, trophies and awards show the remarkable sportsman Lewis was, but that is merely one aspect," said Pinchen.

"Suddenly he could be showing off with the World Cup trophy and the next week he'd be in the box office where I worked, responding to enthusiast inquiries if we were particularly swamped and assisting with sales."
