Intense rains over the past week have compounded the precarious situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the region, according to aid groups.
A official described the weather overnight as "terrible", with downpours so intense that around 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.
"The recent weather was truly terrible for the people. The storms were so strong... And the gusts were so powerful," noted the spokesperson.
Officials express significant worry that young ones sheltering in makeshift shelters in soaked attire will contract hypothermia and various illnesses.
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has died from the cold and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures triggered by the storms.
Further statements suggest a higher fatality count. Authorities stated that multiple residential buildings had collapsed completely and many others had collapsed partially.
Groups have escalated distribution of tents, warm covers and garments after the ceasefire commenced, but they emphasize there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Officials are operating tirelessly to bring in that relief and to distribute it, but the scale of the requirements is so enormous that we still have thousands of families and minors who are truly enduring hardship every night," stated one official.
The next stage of the truce involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of personnel, and other provisions.
Aid bodies have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to address pressing and ongoing requirements."
The hostilities was triggered by an offensive in late 2023. Subsequent campaigns have resulted in a high number of fatalities in the territory, as per medical reports.
