England's famous supporters' group, the organized fan base, have 3,000 fans flying out for the concluding fixtures in the SCG and MCG.

The Ryding Siblings

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are four such fans.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their travel arrangements and match passes arranged for the Boxing Day and New Year Tests "12 months ago", hoping to witness a rare England series success.

Sadly, they've observed Australia defeat England convincingly in just 11 days from their family home in Penwortham, Lancashire.

"All my colleagues has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"The hope was that we would have something to play for by the time we arrived."

Diminishing Hope

Hope was abundant regarding the team's prospects of breaking a 15-year drought for a victory down under ahead of the tour.

But they are now staring down the barrel of extending their winless run in the country to 19 games when the fourth Test gets under way in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

One sibling noted the "entertainment" of head coach the positive style of play in recent years had "reinvigorated" the five-day game for English supporters.

However, the group said they had minimal hopes for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are requesting from the players is "a bit of fight".

"In a five-day Test match, you should apply yourself. Playing at deliveries 'wide of off stump has never featured in the fundamentals, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

The Remaining Matches

Prompted about he believed England will secure a victory in this Ashes series, came the reply: "It looks like the Aussies are just too good at the moment."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that makes a significant contribution and turns the game."

Even with the series lost, the fans are excited about the trip.

"We will have a great time anyway," added another sibling. "Our approach is that outlook."

"Naturally, it's a let-down we can't contest the series, but we have spent so much money already."

"We plan to savor having Christmas and New Year out there. It is also mine and Rory's first time abroad over Christmas."

A teacher, Katie is focused on enjoying the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her time off.

"As a backup plan, I can play golf to turn to," she added.
