19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an better service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
