Rory McIlroy hails Spoty success with double accolades.

Just prior to the announcement, a anxious worry darted through the golfer's mind. He said he was concerned, "Please don't let it be a racing champion again."

"It's been a tremendous night for golf," he stated. "Golf was celebrated in such a significant way, with the team winning and then with my award. It's a special evening for golf, and hopefully we can capitalize on that."

On this occasion, however, there was no last-minute surprise. The verdict was decisive, allowing a delighted McIlroy to enjoy a memorable evening for both himself and the European Ryder Cup winners, who were crowned team of the year.

Constant Motion

Instead of opting to stay for the official reception, McIlroy was already plotting his next sporting adventure. Having just played in the Golf Channel Games in Florida and flown to the UK, he was heading straight back to the sunshine state.

"It's been a hectic 24 hours," McIlroy explained. "I am anticipating a little bit of a break over Christmas."

Nevertheless, McIlroy insisted he has no desire to rest on his laurels, even after securing the ultimate golfing achievement earlier in the year. "My belief is I've got a more to give in me," he remarked.

"Additional major championships, tour championships, international events, that's great. But as long as you feel like you can keep getting better and have the hunger, that's the essential part."

Elsewhere, teammate Tommy Fleetwood, who was on stage to collect the team award, also applauded golf's exceptional night and his close friend's individual success.

"They are the moments that will remain with us indefinitely so to get the fan's acknowledgment for that is amazing," Fleetwood said. "Witnessing it Rory win, I think he deserves it so much."

Looking Ahead

Fleetwood hopes to at last capture his first major next year but he acknowledged McIlroy still desires more success. "If you want to be the greatest possible version of yourself, and you're still driven, you'll find things to improve," he noted.

Before McIlroy left, an additional topic arose. Being a massive Manchester United fan, he has been asked to parade his trophies at Old Trafford before. Would he be tempted to do it again after his latest triumphs?

"Provided that they halt the flow of four goals at home," McIlroy responded with a grin. "They're getting better. There's a hint of positivity around."

After a 2025 for the ages, it's understandable that the champion golfer is focusing on the bright side.
