Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home defeat of the year.
But the main talking point was Fulham's next goal when Vicario lost possession far beyond his box.
He ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.
However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham supporters booed him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really angered Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough booing after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.
Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He's a great team player, he is a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italy national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to take the feedback.
"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I accept accountability for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."
He said being booed "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to remain more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad defeat and it is tough to take."
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.
Actually it was the next longest-range Premier League goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 moments following the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of additional time. After that it was all about trying to make the right contact and get it on target. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager
While Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
The match was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have occurred since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to go against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a single story, today we were defeated in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have lost four consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a high profile job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
