The retailer's Shiny Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Legendaries Giveaway Persists to Be Problematic

In late September, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo unveiled a partnered giveaway with the gaming retailer. Through October 15th, Glittering versions of the iconic legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were given away at physical GameStop stores in the US and at EB Games in New Zealand and Australia. Involved local stores in additional nations such as France and Japan have also been included in the campaign.

Early Troubles and Code Shortages

However, the promotion faced difficulties from the beginning—enthusiasts stated that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the days leading up to the event. Now, about halfway through the promotional period, GameStop has restocked the codes, but it's likely your nearest outlet has already run out.

Due to overwhelming demand, the first wave of complimentary Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes went very quickly.

Saturday, October 4th, the retailer announced a code restock on X. The company's statement explained that they had collaborated with The Pokémon Company to provide additional codes, but there's a catch. "Pokémon has given us a restricted quantity of receipt codes, around 50 per location."

Scalping and Resale Issues

Stores initially received 50 codes, though they were rapidly depleted. Even with the promotion limiting codes to one per person, some eBay listings surfaced with several codes available. This has continued for the new round of codes. One of the top replies on social media commented, "These codes right?" alongside screenshots of eBay listings for the codes, with one listing having several codes on offer.

Varied Outcomes for Players

Some players were able to snag codes during the weekend from their local stores, while others weren't so lucky. "Waiting on 3rd chance now. Just called my GameStop. They have no codes left (once more)," a fan commented, before fellow enthusiasts stepped up and gave them spare codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.

Unanswered Questions

Why the Shiny box legendaries weren't earned through a Tera Raid battle or given away online via Mystery Gift is still unclear. For now, you'll have to head to your nearest retailer and hope they still have codes left if you want a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon.
